Getting started
Getting started with Sefton
Set up your practice on Sefton in under an hour: create your account, add your practice details, import your clients, invite the team, and see your first patient with billing ready from day one.
Welcome to Sefton. This guide is the short path from a new account to a documented, billable first visit. Each step links to a longer guide when you want the detail.
1. Create your account
Go to Create your account. You will enter your name, email, and NPI (the NPPES directory can prefill your details from the NPI), choose a password, and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. The trial is 30 days and does not ask for a card.
The account then walks through four short onboarding steps: Provider Verification, Practice Setup, Compliance and Agreements (where you sign the Business Associate Agreement), and Welcome. See Create your account.

2. Add your practice details
Practice Setup asks for the practice name, address, phone, email, practice NPI, tax ID (EIN or SSN), and practice type (solo, group, clinic, hospital, urgent care, telehealth). If you bill from a different service facility, add it here too. Everything lands on your claims and superbills, so take a minute to get it right. See Practice setup.
3. Turn on two-factor authentication
Settings > Security has 2FA Setup. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app and confirm the six-digit code. You can also add Face ID or Touch ID as a passkey. Two-factor sign-in protects every record in the practice, so we recommend doing this before you add patients. See Security, 2FA, and passkeys.
4. Import your clients
Settings > Import opens the Data Import Wizard. Upload a CSV or Excel file of your patients, optionally a second file of appointments, review the counts, and complete setup. Existing practices usually finish this in the time it takes to make coffee. See Import your clients.

5. Invite your team
Patients > Providers lets an owner invite providers. Each invitation shows the monthly billing change before it is sent, so there are no surprises on the next invoice. See Invite your team.
6. Book and document your first visit
Book the appointment from Sessions (or say it: “Book Maria Tuesday at three”). After the visit, open Quick Dictate, talk through the session, review the suggested ICD-10 and CPT® codes, and sign. On Sefton Core the signed note becomes a superbill or CMS-1500; on Sefton Complete it becomes an electronic claim. See The Sessions day view and Quick Dictate and Sefton Voice.
7. Invite families to the portal
From a patient’s record, Invite to Portal sends a secure invitation. The family sees appointments, goals, home programs, messages, forms, bills, and shared records in their own language. See Invite a patient to the portal.

Yes. The Data Import Wizard accepts a CSV or Excel export of your patients and, optionally, your appointments, so nothing is re-keyed.
