Referral records

Track incoming referrals per patient: the referring provider, referral date, expiry, and visits authorized, and record each visit used so the remaining count is always right.

Sefton Editorial · Reviewed by Sefton Product ·

Referral records live in two places: on each patient’s profile (the Referrals card) and as a practice-wide page under Patients > Records > Referral records.

Adding a referral

Add referral: referring provider name (and NPI if you have it), referral date, expiry date, visits authorized, and notes. Add.

Using visits

Record visit used decrements the remaining count. The card shows Active, Expired, or Completed, warns with Expires today, and the Sessions queue flags a referral that will run out before the plan of care does.

The Referral records page listing referrals with expiry dates and visits remaining.

On claims

When a payer requires the referring provider on the claim, Book Appointment carries the referring provider name and NPI so the CMS-1500 has them (Calendar and booking).

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as the referral program?

No. Referral records are clinical referrals from physicians and other providers. The referral program that credits your subscription for practices you refer is under Settings > Referral program and on the referrals page of this site.
