Billing > Remittance (Payment Posting) is where money meets claims.

ERA files

Payers you enrolled for ERA send electronic remittance (835) files through the clearinghouse. The dashboard counts Total ERA Files, Pending Processing, Payments Posted, and Total Amount Posted. Files appear as they arrive; “ERA files will appear here once received from payers” is the empty state for a new practice.

Automatic posting

For each claim in the file Sefton posts the Paid Amount, the Adjustment (with the reason codes), and the patient responsibility, and moves the claim to Paid or Follow-up needed (partial payment or denial). The claim’s balance is one figure computed from billed minus paid minus adjustments.

Unmatched payments

Payments the file could not tie to a claim are listed with a confidence (High, Medium). Post Payment picks the claim and posts it. “All payments have been matched and posted” is the goal state.

Statistics

Payment Posting Statistics summarizes ERA files processed and payments posted for the period, which is what you compare against the bank deposits.

Denials in the ERA

A denial line in the remittance creates the denial record and appears on the Denial Management Dashboard with its appeal deadline (Denials and appeals).

Frequently asked questions

Why is a payment unmatched?

The ERA referenced a claim Sefton could not match: a claim submitted from another system, a payer-assigned claim number, or a patient identifier that differs. Post Payment lets you pick the claim by hand.
